Kwashibu Area Band returns with news of their latest album Love Warrior's Anthem. Known for their masterful musicianship and deep roots in Ghanaian Highlife, this release marks a turning point for the band, stepping into a more introspective and nuanced sound that reimagines the genre’s future. While the band has become well known for their critically acclaimed albums with Pat Thomas (Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band, 2015 | Obiaa!, 2019), Love Warrior's Anthem is the first standalone project from the band highlighting their signature musicianship while embracing a softer, more reflective approach to Highlife. The record seamlessly blends jazz, reggae, and dub influences while staying grounded in Ghana’s rich musical traditions.
The album’s visual identity is equally striking, featuring a front cover image of 'Anansi’s Dance' (2023), a mixed media collage by renowned British-Trinidadian artist Zak Ové, crafted from musical instruments and vintage Kente cloth.
Recorded in Berlin with renowned reggae drummer and producer Giuseppe "Big Finga" Coppola and percussion maestro Eric Owusu, the album represents a jazz-influenced exploration of the genre. It showcases the band's ability to reimagine traditional genres, offering a range of sounds from danceable rhythms to meditative compositions.
