Panama! is the first title in Soundway’s Panama trilogy and introduces the fertile music of a geographically and culturally unique nation situated between Central America and the Caribbean.

Panama! focuses on the heavy latin descargas, raw calypsos, deep funk and Caribbean soul during the golden age of Panamanian music. All featured tracks were originally released in very small quantities but have now been re-released and sound as vibrant and relevant today as the era they were produced.

The Panama series compiler, Roberto Ernesto Gyemant, trawled the country’s radio stations and dusty record shops and found a mesmerising mix of musical styles that were influenced by North American soul, latin from Cali and Baranquilla and calypsos from the Caribbean.
